I am originally from Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I joined the US Air Force upon graduation from high school. I have a BS in Computer Information Systems from Saint Leo University, a Masters in TESOL from Kennesaw State University and Currently working on a Doctorates in Administration and Leadership from Walden University.

I chose to work for Upward Bound because I believe in the fundamentals of the program.  I have a love for learning and believe in young minds and want all youth to succeed.  Anything I can do to guide youth toward becoming the best person they can be and exceeding: I am fully committed.

I believe that "All it takes is just one person to believe."

My favorite part of the program is interacting with the students, helping them grow both academically and personally and of course, learning about them, their life goals, their diverse backgrounds and thinking.

Hello! My name is Mary Turner and I am the Academic Advisor for Upward Bound-Rockmart/Cedartown. I grew up in Marietta, GA, but have lived in Paulding County for the last 10 years. I received my Associate’s Degree from Georgia Highlands College in Psychology and then transferred to Kennesaw State University for my Bachelor’s degree. I took all of my classes at KSU Paulding and was the first graduate of the KSU Paulding Psychology 2+2 program. While at KSU Paulding, I worked as a student assistant and did a lot of research on TRiO Upward Bound programs when Coach Lemelle was in the process of writing the grants. As someone from a low income background who was first in my family to go to college, I felt like these programs were a way to help out students like myself who maybe didn't know what choices they have for college and beyond. My favorite part of the program is exposing students to new experiences. We had students go swimming for the first time over the summer. I love building lasting relationships with students and being there for them when they need me. I look forward to working with all of my students through high school and watching their journey through college and beyond.
